For our new home office I wanted to make my own built in desk. I chose this wall because the window faces the Bayou Teche and when I’m blogging (or working on my future book) I can look out and watch the fish jumping, squirrels running around, the birds and every now and then an alligator.
I am trying to get this room done on a budget. So to save money I went to Home Depot and picked up two vanity cabinets. They are 60 inches wide and that is what I wanted. They were cabinet height but my dad cut the toe kick plates on both of them and now they are at desk height.
They are regular price $159.00. When working within a budget, always look for bargains.
This is the image from the internet I am using for inspiration:
I ‘m not doing the bookshelves on top but I do like the blue color and the wood countertop. To get this look you can use Dixie Belle Vintage Duck Egg Blue Chalk Paint. You can find this paint at The French Door here in Franklin or you can order it here.
This is the cabinet on the left after it was painted.
This is the one on the right.
Next you will put two coats of the Dixie Belle Gator Hide to seal it.
Then you will stain the counter top. I ordered 3 boards 16 feet long from Home Depot. They delivered it to my home. Thank goodness because they were so big.
I picked up Minwax Wood Stain in Walnut, a Purdy paint brush and mineral spirits to clean it.
I’ll post pictures of the desktop when it’s installed.

That might be a plan in the future.
