Today I will show you how to create a rustic desk top using lumber and a
Ryobi Biscuit Joiner. I had never heard of this tool and I am amazed by it. Leave it to my dad to have the best tools.
In my last post we left off with staining the wood for the desk top.
I had to wait a day for the stain on my custom desk top to dry. Then I had to wait a day for my dad to be able to help me put the boards together. When he called to say he was on his way, I was so excited to get started.
He decided to use the RYOBI biscuit joiner. He had only used it a couple of times so he had to read the instructions again. It was not hard to use at all.
Here are the biscuits
This was a sample we tried with other boards before cutting into the real thing.
Dad making the cuts for the biscuits to fit in.
After all cuts were made, biscuits were placed in cuts. We put it all together to see if all fit together. It worked so then we took it apart and glued it all together. Dad attached clamps to keep board in place.
I had never seen anything like these makeshift clamps made from rope and screwdrivers. Talk about using what you have.
Now to let the glue set for 24 hours. I can’t wait to get it inside!!
Here it is installed in my office.
What are you inspired to restore today???
Debbie
