A few weeks back I shared with you that I wanted to change things up in our side entry.
This is the before picture — It was painted “Latte” by Sherwin Williams. It’s a warm color and went well with our stained trim and brick floors.
When I saw this picture on Hammmade’s instagram feed, I was inspired. I love the color, read that it was Alabaster by Sherwin Williams. So I knew that was the color I wanted to go with.
Here is the after.
I sampled the Alabaster first and decided to cut the yellow in the formula by 50% and I’m glad I did. It is a perfect shade of white! Whites look different in every environment so it’s must to test on your walls first.
I also worked on a couple of projects using Heirloom Traditions products too. Of course.
I picked up this old frame in Round Top last year. I got if for about $15.00 but I loved the shape. It did not matter to me that it was not in perfect condition. That just made it more appealing to me.
I knew I wanted to place it over this piece of furniture as a mirror.
So I painted it first, then brought it to Southern Glass here in Franklin to have a mirror made for it. Dale and Gayle always help me with mirror and glass projects. They work with you to choose the right materials and are affordable.
These are the products I used to get this look on the frame. First I dry brushed “Row House”, let dry, then dry brushed one of my custom colors, “Serenity”, let dry and waxed with the spray wax Muddy Pond. When using our spray waxes, I pour some in a bowl, water it down a little, brush on and wipe off. That’s all. No buffing involved.
I love the way it turned out and it looks great in it’s new home.
Next project was this short door I found at the Vintage Market Days in Amite, Louisiana. I wanted a greenish gray so I had to create a custom color to get just the shade I wanted.
I mixed Heirloom Traditions Irish Cream, Kingdom Gold, Kelly’s Seaside Blue and Repose. Mixed them together until I got my Happy Color.
I love how it came out. To seal it I used our Spray Clear Wax, applying it the same way I did on the mirror.
Here she is hanging in the hall. I got the cotton wreath and sconces from Lola, etc. If you are interested in purchasing these, send her a message and she will ship to you.
I love how the door has an arch just like the mirror.
To get this look on the bench. I painted two full coats of Heirloom Traditions Venetian, then waxed with Barnwood Spray wax, let dry and waxed with Muddy Pond Spray Wax.
I needed something for this wall so I took this painting from my studio for now.
We love the hall now. It’s just a fresh update. Now on to the rest of the house.
Sadie supervised all of the projects and gives her approval.
You can find any of the paint finishes I used in these projects in my booth at Chic & Shabby, Main Street, Franklin, Louisiana. If you can’t come into the store, you can order here at Heirloom Traditions Paint Company, remember to enter the code RESTORE at the checkout to get 10% off of your order.

I love everything about this transformation! I never would have thought about hanging a gate on my wall but this looks wonderful and the color you blended is perfect. I have an old mirror in a frame like yours, I need to dig it out and give it some distressing and hang it up.
Debbie says
Thanks Toni! I love repurposing old found objects and just things we have in storage too. I’m glad you like the color of the gate. Heirloom Traditions is creating this in a custom color for me. It will be available in few weeks. I will announce it on the blog. Thanks for stopping by.
